Specpharm´s empowerment strategy aims to include:

  • Employees
  • Suppliers
  • Business partners

In April 2007, a Specpharm Holdings staff share trust was created, in terms of which all permanent employees were awarded shares.

These shares represented a 5% interest in the Specpharm manufacturing operations. In addition to this an Education Assistance Programme was implemented for permanent employees, where financial assistance was made available for Nursery, Primary and Secondary schooling.

The staff demographics at Specpharm consists of approximately 75% Black (Broad Based) and 25% White employees. The split w.r.t. gender is 52% men and 48% women.

Destiny Corporation, holding a 31% shareholding in Specpharm, is a black owned and managed investment firm whose creation represents the culmination of its founders´ collective fifty years of business experience in the areas of corporate and investment banking, commercial law and operational business management.

Destiny is 100% black owned with 93% of its equity beneficially owned by Black people.

VenFin Limited and Sanlam Private Equity collectively owns 30% of Destiny, and are Destiny´s strategic equity partners.

Destiny´s primary business is making equity investments for long term capital appreciation, either through controlling ownership of a company or through strategic minority positions. For more information on Destiny Corporation please visit
